Raw Hemp Fiber
|
The Yoni Shield series are 2D cast paper mixed media compositions which use a variety of fibers and pulps: Abaca, Thai Kozo, and Hemp.
Paper/bark fibers are cooked and made into sheets or used raw. Color is obtained by using commercial pigments or naturally occurring pigments created with teas, herbs, flowers and spices. |
Paper pulp and found objects are placed in the desired composition using methylcellulose as an adhering agent. Found objects have included naturally occurring animal bones, metal, wire, pottery shards, dried plants, lichen, moss, wool, beehive, etc.
The casting is dried and removed from the mold; the surface is then treated with stains, sealants, patina, paint, fire, etc. Additional objects are added to complete the composition. Each shield is unique and individually made.
